Boys put scare in No. 2 Cougars

Platteview tied the game twice midway through the fourth quarter before Class B No. 2 Omaha Gross sealed a narrow 67-63 win from the free throw in the semifinals of the B-2 district tournament. Platteview senior Adam Heimes unofficially scored 14 of his team-high 21 points in the fourth quarter, but the Cougars' Jared Warner countered with 20 and led all scorers with 34. Heimes nailed four 3-pointers in the final period, while the 6-8 Warner hit three.

Boys finally get over Plattsmouth hump

Adam Heimes' layup with 22 seconds left ended Plattsmouth's 9-game win streak over the Trojans in a hard-fought 48-47 win, but not without a tense finish. Derek Sutton's putback of an Andrew Mitteis miss came just after the buzzer to leave the Blue Devils stunned as the Trojans celebrated.

Trojans fall to No. 3 Gretna girls

Platteview stayed with Gretna for two quarters, but the Class B No. 3 Dragons broke the game open in the second half for a 69-36 win in the semifinals of the B-2 district basketball tournament. Senior Annie Benson scored 12 points in the season-ending loss for the Trojans.

Girls end district drought with overtime win

Platteview's third overtime victory of the season netted the girls their first district basketball win since 2004. The fourth-seeded Trojans (5-14) downed fifth-seeded Omaha Gross 45-42 to advance to Thursday's semifinals against Class B No. 3 Gretna (19-2). Senior Annie Benson scored 12 of her game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter, and five of the Trojans' eight overtime points, to go with 13 rebounds.

Elkhorn slips past Platteview boys

Platteview's slow start allowed host Elkhorn to end the regular season for both teams with a 55-50 win over the Trojans in Eastern Midlands Conference play.

Dance, cheer teams compete at state championships

The Platteview dance team finished second behind Sidney in the Hip Hop division at the Nebraska Coaches Association state dance and cheer championships held in Grand Island. The Trojans cheer squad placed eighth in the Non-building/Non-tumbling division.

Roth, Williams take home third place medals

Platteview seniors Isaac Roth and Matt Williams both won twice today and finished third at the NSAA state wrestling championships being held at Qwest Center Omaha. Roth pinned Boys Town's Tre Richardson with 53 seconds left in the second period to earn his second straight third-place finish. Williams, in just his third year of wrestling, ended his stunning tournament run the same way it started, with a win over fourth-ranked Tom Keck of Bennington. Williams prevailed 6-5 after a flurry of action late in his third-place match.

Elkhorn girls coast past Trojans

Elkhorn had no trouble subduing Platteview in the regular season finale for both teams. The visiting Antlers jumped out to a 17-5 first-quarter lead then coasted to a 56-21 Eastern Midlands Conference win.

Roth, Williams assured medals at state wrestling

Top-ranked Christian Loges of Omaha Skutt knocked Platteview's Isaac Roth out of the 145-pound championship bracket in semifinals action at the NSAA state wrestling championships. The loss dropped Roth into Saturday morning's consolation semifinals with classmate Matt Williams, an 8-5 winner over Lukas Ramsey of Mount Michael in the consolation quarterfinals. Both Trojans are guaranteed a medal.

Girls hammer Nebraska City on EMC road

Platteview dropped its highest point total of the season on Nebraska City and won in convincing fashion on the road 51-31 for the Trojans' only Eastern Midlands Conference victory of the season. Ten players scored for Platteview led by senior Annie Benson with 14 points.
