Platteview sophomore Justin Meyer, making his first ever appearance in the state Class B golf championships, had a career round on the second day to finish the tournament in 32nd place.

Nelson rallies for third-place medal in discus

Steve Nelson sat in eighth place in the boys discus at the NSAA state track and field championships with one attempt left, then the senior Trojan uncorked a career-best throw of 157 feet, 13 feet better than his previous best throw of the meet, to vault himself into third place to end his high school sports career. The Platteview boys 400-meter relay team was also in action on the final day of competition but had problems at the second exchange and didn't finish their race. Nathan Boggess ran 20th in the 1,600-meter run.

Jensen only state medalist so far

After the opening day of the NSAA state track and field championships, Platteview's only medalist is senior Jessica Jensen. She finished eighth in the girls long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 3.75 inches.

Meyer headed to state golf tournament

Platteview sophomore Justin Meyer qualified for next week's Class B state golf tournament with an eighth-place finish in the B-1 district tournament at Table Creek in Nebraska City. Myer shot 82 over 18-holes to earn his first trip to the NSAA championship event. The Trojans finished fifth in the 12-team field.

Boggess, Nelson, Reed qualify for state in two events

Seniors Tyler Reed and Steve Nelson, and junior Nathan Boggess each will compete in two events at Burke Stadium next week in the NSAA state track and field championships. Nelson finished second in the shot put and discus. Boggess placed third in the 3,200-meter run and fourth in the 1,600. Reed qualified in the triple jump. Senior Gavin Swanson, junior Colton Eledge and freshman Brooks Erhart will join Reed in the 400-meter relay at Burke.

Iske wins district title in Auburn

Senior Cayla Iske won the Class B-2 district championship in the discus to qualify for next week's NSAA state track and field championships at Burke Stadium in Omaha. Seniors Laurel Shepard and Jessica Jensen will join her after Shepard qualified in the 400-meter dash and Jensen in the long jump.

McGill medals again at Waverly Invite

Freshman Nathan McGill picked up his third tournament medal of the season after finishing 12th in the Waverly Invitational. The Trojans finished sixth in the 16-team field.

Golfers get win at tricky Bay Hills course

Junior Garrett Kent shook off a tough first hole then put together a strong round of 38 at Bay Hills Golf Course to help lead the Trojans past host Plattsmouth 174-197 in the final dual of the season.

Boys tie for fifth with Norris at EMC meet

Senior Tyler Reed and junior Nathan Boggess each won three medals as Platteview tied Norris for fifth place in the Eastern Midlands Conference track and field meet. Waverly won the team title at Elkhorn by 22 points over second place Blair.

Trojans girls seventh at EMC track meet

Platteview found points hard to come by and finished seventh with no champions at the Eastern Midlands Conference track and field meet hosted by Elkhorn. Norris slipped by Waverly to win the girls team title behind senior Anne Martin's three gold medals.
