New football schedules released

Wednesday, February 03, 2010

Report By: Frank Staskiewicz, Jr.

The Nebraska School Activities Association has released high school football schedules for the next two-year scheduling cycle. Platteview’s move to Class C1 for that period means the Trojans will see teams the school has never played, or hasn’t faced for a very long time.

The drop to C1 will also result in an 8-game regular season schedule instead of a 9-game schedule played by teams in the state’s top two classes. Thirty-two of the 50 C1 schools will qualify for the state playoffs, thus assuring most teams of at least a ninth game.

Platteview was assigned to the C1-1 district last December along with Auburn, Conestoga, Falls City and Syracuse. The other four schools on the Trojans’ schedule for 2010 and 2011 include Wahoo Neumann, Ashland-Greenwood, Omaha Roncalli and Wahoo.

Here’s a rundown of Platteview’s 2010 schedule with opponents' regular season and playoff records shown in parentheses:

Week 0 Wahoo Neumann (5-3, 1-1)
Week 1 Open
Week 2 Ashland-Greenwood (6-2, 1-1)
Week 3 at Omaha Roncalli (1-8)
Week 4 at Conestoga* (5-2 Eight Man 1)
Week 5 Syracuse* (8-0, 2-1)
Week 6 at Wahoo (5-3, 1-1)
Week 7 Auburn* (1-7)
Week 8 at Falls City* (4-4, 0-1)

* C1-1 district opponent

"I’m excited for next season and look forward to the challenges ahead," commented Platteview football coach Adam Kuhl when assessing the Trojans new slate of opponents. "It will be a great challenge and opportunity to play arguably the best C1 team the last decade right out of the chute."

Kuhl was referring to Bishop Neumann, a parochial high school in Wahoo which has made 10 consecutive playoff appearances. The Cavaliers won two state championships and finished second twice during that stretch.

The 2010 football season begins Thursday, August 26. Actual game days and times will be announced later as schools put their respective athletic schedules together for next fall.

The 2011 schedule will look the same, but the location of the games will be reversed.
