Girls hammer Nebraska City on EMC roadThursday, February 18, 2010Report By: Frank Staskiewicz, Jr. Platteview (4-13) 12 10 13 16 51 Nebraska City (6-14) 5 8 4 14 31 Game Stats Platteview senior Annie Benson continued her strong play, and 10 players scored as the Trojans racked up their highest point total of the season on the road at Nebraska City. The result was a convincing 51-31 thumping of the Pioneers, and the Trojans' first Eastern Midlands Conference victory of the season. Platteview got off to a good start and built a 12-5 first-quarter lead. The Pioneers kept pace in the second period but trailed 22-13 at halftime. Nebraska City faltered in the third though and scored only four points. The Trojans poured in 13 to hold a comfortable 35-17 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. Platteview coach Shawn Ekwall was pleased with his squad's effort on the road. "This was a very good team win," Ekwall commented, "and one of the best games we’ve played start to finish all season." Platteview shot a season-high 44 percent from the floor and recorded a season-low 12 turnovers. Benson led all scorers with 14 points to go with nine rebounds.
