Gretna (20-2) 16 11 18 24 69 Platteview (5-15) 6 7 12 11 36 Game Stats Platteview was still in the game and trailed top-seeded Gretna by 14 points at halftime. But the Class B No. 3 Dragons steadily pulled away from their cross county rivals in the second half for an easy 69-36 win in the semifinals of the B-2 girls district basketball tournament at Omaha Northwest High School. Gretna went four minutes without scoring in the middle of the second quarter, giving Platteview a chance to gain some ground. But the Trojans scored just two points over the last 4:27 of the half and trailed 27-13 at the break. The Dragons' offense looked sharper in the third quarter, but overmatched Platteview was unable to keep pace and fell behind by 20 as Gretna rolled to the big win. Both teams shot 42 percent from the field, but the Dragons poured in six three-pointers and the Trojans none. Gretna also made 27 field goals to just 15 for Platteview. Gretna sophomore Jordyn Wollenburg led all scorers with 14 points. Junior Brooke Arp added 13 and senior Cathy Edmison 10. Senior Annie Benson capped her Platteview career with 12 points and eight rebounds after developing into a dominant player at times over the last month of the season. "Annie improved more in one season than any kid I’ve coached," offered coach Shawn Ekwall about his probable all-conference post player. "Her confidence and growth as a player were fun to watch." Platteview finished the season at 5-15, two wins better than a year ago. Four of the wins came in the last three weeks, which drew praise from coach Shawn Ekwall for his players efforts. "I thought our kids really progressed this season, especially the last three weeks," Ekwall said. " We were a much better basketball team down the stretch. "I’m really proud of how our kids battled through adversity. We could have folded the tents up after the first Gretna game in January, yet we chose to buckle down and get better." Ekwall also had high praise for his seniors. "All our seniors did a great job of righting the ship these last few weeks, said Ekwall. "They were determined to finish the season strong and we did. It was fun to get a win in the district tournament, which was something our kids can be proud of."
